It is a subject that exerts great allure on people who investigate the human behavior. It is thought that this allure is justified by the dinamicidade of this period of the human development and also, for the consequences that exert on the adult life and of the mental health of the individual. When one searched to know the meaning of the term adolescence, was verified that its concept and understanding in accordance with vary the time and the author. it was looked, however, to run away from the meanings that are given to it, as: aborrecncia, revolt and atrevimento, and at the same time to surpass the understanding of adolescence pautada in the idea of that to be adolescent is to live a world of dreams and fancies. Leaving of these criteria, one perceived that existing literature makes possible to understand that, until century XIX, it was considered that the individual passed directly of infancy for the adult age, being that ' had only the terms; ' juventude' ' or ' ' puberdade' ' , that they corresponded to the physical transformations, not having references to the emotional ones. The adolescence concept is, therefore, sufficiently recent, dating of the period it enters the end of the World War I and the beginning of Second, that is, between 1918 and 1939 (TAKIUTI et al, 2009). In accordance with Osrio (2000), this phase of the life today is considered a stage in same itself, possessing, in such a way, a series of peculiar characteristics, being able to be defined as a time where biopsicossociais aspects are transformed, thus the biological one, the psychological one, social and the cultural one are indissociveis, being impossible to analyze an independent one of the other. Bock (2000), when emphasizing the origin of the word ' ' adolescncia' ' , it affirms that this has a double etimolgica origin and very characterizes well the peculiarities of this stage of the life.
